Happy 35th, Royal Aloha!

“Royal Aloha Comes Alive! For the Timeshare of Your Life!” That was the headline proudly proclaimed in the first issue of Diamond Headlines, Royal Aloha’s very original newsletter. Thirty-five years and 300,000 member vacations later, Royal Aloha continues to be a trusted partner for our members’ vacation lives, helping to build and create lasting family vacation memories every single day!
Launched on September 23, 1977, Royal Aloha was one of the pioneers in the US timeshare industry, and probably the only one that is still standing today as an independent, international member-owned company. Back in September 1977, the Club’s first units were in Aloha Towers, Waikiki, but plans were already underway to add units in Kona, Maui and Acapulco. In early 1980, RAVC branched out to Mainland United States with units in South Lake Tahoe, Nevada; and in Fall 1980, Royal Aloha expanded internationally with units in Marbella, Spain. (I bet you didn’t know that Royal Aloha was the first US vacation Club to have a European destination!) In 1982, we exchanged some of our units in Acapulco for a new location in Chandler, Arizona. In consideration of RAVC members living on the East side of the Mississippi, we added a new location in Branson, Missouri in 2001. Our latest addition was units in the Pacific Northwest at Otter Rock, Oregon in 2007. Through internal exchange arrangements with other resorts, members today also have opportunities to vacation in Kauai, Hawaii; Orlando, Florida; Las Vegas, Nevada; and Cancun and Puerto Vallarta, Mexico.

Royal Aloha Vacation Club members have always come from all walks of life. That very first RAVC newsletter, Diamond Headlines, revealed some interesting statistics of our initial member profile: The youngest was 20 years old and the oldest was 72 (should be 107 now!) There were 6 airline pilots, 3 professional athletes, 16 flight attendants, 20 workers from the Alaskan Pipeline, and one gourmet chef. There were also a few doctors, lawyers, farmers, insurance agents and teachers - a membership as diverse then as it is today. From an early membership of about 200 thirty-five years ago, Royal Aloha now has a big family of about 8,500 members, coming from every single state of the United States and over 20 foreign countries.
A 35th anniversary is indeed an important milestone. We should all celebrate and be proud. Of course, there were some trials and tribulations along the way, and we couldn’t have overcome them without YOU, our loyal and valued members! We would also like to thank all the RAVC staff for their dedication and hard work.
We look forward to continuing the privilege of playing an important role in the timeshare of your life, as proclaimed 35 years ago!
